Sure, NIAGEN®--the key ingredient in Tru Niagen--has been studied before and its capabilities attested to by users everywhere. But science requires a large data pool and consistent findings in well-designed studies in order to prove a thing once and for all.
And right now, this new study proves that when taken at the recommended daily serving, Tru Niagen® increases NAD levels in the bloodstream and sustains them with continued use. It also further affirms that Niagen® doesn’t manifest any of the noticeable side effects sometimes attributed to B3 use. It truly is the remarkable vitamin we’ve believed it to be since its discovery.

Why another study?
More studies mean increased awareness and understanding.
In 2016, the first human clinical study of NR was published. Since then other human clinical studies on NR have been published. None, however, have been as large as this study, meaning the findings are that much more reliable and consistent. When scientists can recreate the same results, again and again, it helps prove their findings aren’t related to any kind of fluke.
It’s hard enough to stay motivated to work on the health of the factors we see readily (such as our muscles, hydration, or getting sleep) but these days science confirms that our cellular health is a crucial aspect to our overall health. Few things aid to keep our cells’ mitochondria in shape as much as NAD, and it’s known that NAD decreases as we age.
Thus a study on the supplement that can directly increase NAD levels, and keep those levels up with sustained use, is the kind of science that directly affects how we approach healthy aging.
The nitty-gritty scientific details
So what exactly did this study entail?
140 healthy and overweight adults were chosen at random to take either one of three different daily doses (100 mg, 300 mg, or 1000 mg) of NIAGEN® or a placebo for eight weeks. The study was double-blind, meaning neither the participants or scientists knew who was getting what dose or placebo until the study was done.
Although participants in all groups—including the placebo—reported some unwanted side effects, none of these were serious or attributable to Niagen. It’s common, and even expected, for people in a clinical trial to report some adverse events. This is one of the reasons the placebo group is so important.
Stick to the facts
This study proves NIAGEN® is doing exactly what it was designed to do. Tru NIAGEN® recommends a daily serving size of 300 mg, and those in the study who took such a dosage experienced on average a 40-50% in whole blood NAD by the end of the eight-week study. For participants taking 100 mg/day, the dosage was not enough to significantly increase NAD.
We already know that Tru Niagen begins working in your body to increase NAD as soon as you start taking it. But thanks to this new study we now know that it takes some time—about two weeks—to fully elevate NAD to a new, higher level. The study also confirmed the results of previous studies that support the safety of Niagen in that by the end of the eight-week trial, no changes in LDL cholesterol levels or blood levels of homocysteine were observed.
And there’s more. What’s truly exciting is that those participants experienced sustained higher levels of NAD. The study confirmed that continued use ensures NAD levels go up and those levels don’t return to their original lower numbers with continued NIAGEN use.
Knowing this exact amount of NIAGEN® taken consistently does indeed lead to such exciting results only makes it easier to recommend to anyone looking to beat the onset of age-related health decline.
